Jennifer and Stefan
RAC Club | Pall Mall | London
RAC Club Wedding Photographer
I was so excited when Jennifer and Stefan contacted me to photograph their wedding at The RAC Club in Pall Mall in the heart of Westminster. These was some uncertainty over the plans with travel restrictions in force due to the pandemic, but in the end it all came together perfectly.
The grandeur of the Royal Automobile Club’s Pall Mall clubhouse provides an incredible venue for a wedding day. It’s perfectly placed in central London and with the opulent décor and old-fashioned Club charm, Pall Mall was built to host such occasions. Winter weddings in London are often very special, but on this late November day London looked like a film set as the couple stepped outside to be showered in confetti as their guests lined the street. This moment resulted in one of my favourite photographs from the day. I’m not sure I’ve ever shot confetti at night before, but it looked stunning and I’m so pleased that everyone was happy to brave the chilly November evening..
This was the latest in a number of weddings I’ve shot at this stunning venue, so if you’re looking for a RAC Club wedding photographer I’d love to hear from you!
Jennifer and Stefan’s Story
Jennifer and Stefan met in the bar at a Mexican restaurant in Dallas, Texas on Cinco de Mayo 3 years earlier. Stefan was sitting eating dinner by himself in the bar, unaware that it was Mexico’s independence day, when Jennifer walked in with some friends. She asked him which teams were playing on the TV feed and the rest is history.
Stefan informally pledged himself to Jennifer on Valentines Day 2021 by unofficially proposing to her at her apartment. Due to travel restrictions related to Covid-19 and the couple living in Dallas and his family being in both the UK and Sweden there were many uncertainties as to when both parties could gather for a wedding celebration. They did not want to get questions every week about when and where the wedding was going to be, so the engagement was kept a secret for a few months.
However, there had been some scheming and dreaming going on behind the scenes. Ever since learning Stefan was a member at the Royal Automobile Club in London Jennifer had envisioned an intimate English wedding, and Stefan views the club as his home in London every time he goes there. It is a historic gem with so much soul, panache and amenities better than any 5-star hotel. While the couple was on summer holiday at Jennifer’s family lake home, travel to England was open, the planning began and the wedding vision started to come to life.
The RAC was the perfect venue for the couple to plan for the wedding weekend remotely as the club has an in-house events-planning team, which are absolutely incredible. The Mall Room was chosen for the ceremony and dinner as it is the perfect size for a small wedding of 38 people and so very intimate with the deep red coloured walls and beautiful old paintings, in contrast to some of the banqueting halls which can seat hundreds of guests.
The RAC Club in Pall Mall
The RAC is also located perfectly to experience London for those traveling from abroad as most sights, restaurants and museums are either walking distance or a short taxi ride away. With that said, the cocktail bar at the club is one of the couple’s favourite bars in London and The Great Gallery restaurant is the most beautiful restaurant they have ever dined in and the food & wine served there is better than most restaurants. The accessibility to the London gems gave guests with jet-lag a very comfortable first few days enjoying all the fabulous amenities at the club.
Jennifer said, “I remember vividly sitting in the car early in the morning with my mom and Stefan ringing the RAC to speak about dates for our autumn wedding. From there on out every milestone was secured with faith and a little prayer that it would actually happen.”
Jennifer connected with her wedding dress designer, Valenzuela Atelier, her dream designer. The design had been put on hold after Jennifer and her mother’s trip to Madrid was canceled in May, but even though the designing started a little later in the game the team at Valenzuela Atelier worked their magic from afar (including Zoom measurements) and they made it happen in time for the big day.
“I found Nick, the most wonderful photographer, on the internet. The reason I was drawn to hiring him was that every photo told a story. Stefan agreed that his work was remarkable and intimate. Nick’s background of being a photographer at The Times is where his storytelling through photography and imagery brings the moment to life in a way that instantaneously captured our interest. His work is truly magical, and every image from our wedding blew us away. We will forever relive that weekend from his lens.”
